Did any of you read the New York Times article about a program called REACH that pays some students in New York city an incentive if they pass AP exams. You can read the article here.

I do not quite know what to think about it. There are definitely students that do not have the support system that is encouraging them to take AP courses when they may be capable. Perhaps this is the incentive they need to try these challenging classes. I guess my problem is it almost seems like a bribe. Perhaps students could have their AP exam fee refunded if they passed. I guess some of the students that this program is directed toward are already not paying an exam fee, so that would not be much incentive.

Let me know your thoughts. I am curious to what those in the trenches think.
